Recovered 100 Digital Audio Boards
Challenge: The client had developed
a fast Ethernet audio processing and distribution system.
Initial prototypes had functioned perfectly, but the
first 100 pilot units, some already deployed internationally,
were failing unexpectedly.
Weeks had already been spent troubleshooting the
problem.
Action: Analyzed circuit diagram
and component specifications, proposed and executed tests,
and identified a subtle timing error in the design. Documented
a production design change, as well as a "quick-and-dirty"
modification to get the 100 pilot boards running.
Proposed tests to validate the fixes.
Result: Client was able to
quickly implement modification at overseas
location, solving pilot customer's problem.
Plan to redesign board was abandoned, saving
several months and more than $50,000 development
cost.
