Meter Reading Feature Extension Challenge: An electrical utility was about to deploy thousands of peak / off-peak power meters. The existing portable meter-reading computer and infrastructure was old, poorly documented, and incapable of capturing data from the new meters. Action: Interpreted sparse documentation of system, modified software in terminal and supporting minicomputer, and created new record type backward-compatible with existing accounting software yet capable of holding new data. Result: Customer avoided manual data capture of over 300,000 meter reads, and was later able to sustain delays in rollout of new system with no impact on daily operations.
